Stuttgart, Germany, 30 May 2014. A top ranked global research university, the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), and the world’s leading provider of Big Data 5D BIM enterprise solution for construction, RIB Software AG, have signed a Letter of Intent, to show both parties’ commitment to enter into a research partnership and to co-occupy the new Georgia Tech iTWO Tower project, anchored by a high performance computing and data center. The project will utilize the RIB iTWO technology and working methods.
The Georgia Tech project will be located at Technology Square, a 21st century live-work-learn-play technology innovation eco-system, between Spring Street and West Peachtree Street and immediately south of the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business building in Midtown Atlanta, U.S. The proposed project will support Georgia Tech education and research programs in advanced analytics and computing in conjunction with significant co-location for industry partners. The project also will serve as the North America headquarters of RIB. Georgia Tech and RIB will partner with a private developer to deliver the project.
Further, the project aims to further advance the vision of Atlanta as a sustainable community based on a model for future generations, where living, working, business, technology and science are integrated to form an eco-system within the highest green and smart building standards which are on par with American and German sustainable building standards. Another target of the project is to demonstrate a more efficient process for project design and construction delivery by employing iTWO Technology. This platform supports an end-to-end, comprehensive and “virtual” construction phase prior to initiating the physical construction phase of a project.
Thomas Wolf, Chairman and CEO of RIB Software AG: “We are entering the knowledge age, when data is the most valuable asset. With Big Data, we are able to do Big Analytics and general Big Business out of it. The target of developing Georgia Tech iTWO Tower is to build up a live-work-learn-play eco-system with big data center as the core engine. Georgia Tech, as I see it, is in the USA among the top 3 research universities, and one of the best in the world. We feel greatly honored to cooperate with Georgia Tech, and I believe together we can create a 21st century showcase and landmark building project serving as a benchmark for the 21st century architecture and working methods.”
Stephen Cross, Executive Vice President for Research of Georgia Tech: “For me, the Georgia Tech project itself is both a research and education opportunity in support of Georgia Tech’s vision of educating the technological leaders of the world. Our College of Architecture and College of Engineering, with internationally renowned programs in architecture, urban and regional planning, building construction, civil and environmental engineering will incorporate RIB software into their programs, thus helping to transform the state of practice by revolutionizing experiential and continuing education for city and building developers. We are looking forward to cooperating with RIB in various fields including BIM 5D, big data, business analytics, and high performance computing.”
Steven G. Swant, Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance of Georgia Tech: “We are pleased to have RIB on board as a partner in the execution of our High Performance Computing Center, and to be able to utilize the iTWO technology platform. This partnership should create many possibilities in terms of both collaborative scientific research and development of innovative commercial practices. The project will provide an inter-disciplinary collaborative environment for Georgia Tech’s faculty, students, researchers, entrepreneurs and strategic partners. It will become a landmark on the Georgia Tech campus.” We are now beginning our process for project approvals from the Board of Regents and the State of Georgia to permit us to move aggressively forward.
